BET Awards 2010
I’m not going to get into a debate on whether or not Chris Brown should be forgiven or not. It’s not up to me. That’s between him, his conscience and God. I’m also not trying to get into a debate on whether or not the tears were real.
But I will say this. I enjoyed the awards show. Mostly.
I have made no secret of the fact that I’m a Prince fan. I am glad he was recognized and honored. But I thought the tribute was lacking. There were some people missing from the tribute.
Who would I have had join the performers in the tribute on stage? Sheila E, The Time, Anyone from his past bands (that he is on speaking terms with), anyone from his current roster of musical talent/artists, India Arie, Chaka Khan (she was there but she didn’t sing). But I think having Alicia Keys and Patti Labelle were good touches. It showed that BET knows it’s history and knows the history of Prince and these two particular artists.
And of course I think he should have performed.
I enjoyed seeing El DeBarge perform. I didn’t realize that he was free from prison. And that’s not a snark. Just a simple statement. And I enjoyed Eminem’s performance as well as Usher, Monica and Trey Songz to name a few. I think the opening with Kanye was strange. But it’s Kanye s0… *shrug*.
I loved the MJ tribute by Chris Brown. This is what BET should have done last year. I have not watched BET since last years award show. And the only reason I watched was because of Prince being honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award.
So am I glad I watched? Yes and no. It was a night of ups and downs, highs and lows. But overall, there were some pretty good moments.
